In 1699, Father Francisco Maria Piccolo founded the mission of San Francisco Javier. It is situated on the sierra, 42 km from Loreto. It was assigned to Father Juan de Ugarte 'the atiante of the Californias'. The church of San Javier was built between the years of 1744 and 1759, by father Miguel del Barco. It is the most beautiful and well preserved in Baja California Sur. A visit to this site is recommended, especially for those interested in history and ecology.

The town of Loreto is part of the corridor of Loreto- Nopolo- Puerto Loreto, destined to be a major tourist resort. The 18 hole golf course, the magnificent tennis center with nine courts and a stadium are considered among the best in the country.
