Here is a program I've recently completed to calculate speed in gears depending on tyre sizes and gear ratios. If you want it go to the bottom of the page to download it for free and let me know what you think. It can also be used for motorbikes and lets you change sprocket sizes. Here's a couple of screen shots for a standard 1200 Bug.
You can put in any tyre size and any gear ratio as well as the maximun RPM the engine will pull and the shift point, on the graph below it shows you the RPM the engine theoretically drops to when shifting as well as top speed etc. If you move the mouse pointer on the graph it shows you the speed and RPM at that point. It can also print the graph, save the vehicles and readout in MPH or KPH as well as factor in the slippage of a torque convertor in an auto shift. You can also show two vehicles on the one graph to allow you to compare them.
Click here to get the Speed and RPM calculator Click here to get the latest database of vehicles You will need to put it in the same directory as the Gear calculator once it has been unzipped otherwise the old database will still be used. Next |
