1998 SCORE Baja 1000
Pre-Run & Roving Beach Party
Ensenada to LaPaz
November 7-15

On November 7th the eXtreme SpectatorZ, a group of 11 guys from northern & southern California
left for Baja Mexico to Pre-run the 1998 SCORE-TECATE Baja 1000 off-road Race coarse.

This was a trip in the planning for over 5 years of going to races and sitting around many campfires after a baja race, discussing how great it would be to drive the peninsula run to La Paz on the coarse, and set up a Pit in one of the most remote sections of the race. Well after a lot of planning, e-mails, phone calls, and decision making we finally made it happen.

We decided that we wanted to travel the coarse as light as possible, but still do our camping in style, so we rented
a large van, and found two volunteers (John & Rip, baja virgins) to drive it and carry all the spares, tools, camping gear and all the comforts we would need. The Locos Mocos van would meet up with us at the road crossings with cold cervesas and lunch each day, and then meet us at our planned destination for camp that night. In southern Baja this time of year we were able to acquire all the lobsters, shrimp and oysters we could eat!

After driving the race course all the way to mile marker 1062 in LaPaz, we set up out eXreme Spectator Pit at race mile 700 just south of San Juanico. We had a full service pit complete with tools, lights, generator, welder, and fuel.

It was an awesome trip, even with a few minor miss haps due to "the baja factor", we all had a great time.

A special thanx must go to Mark Naugle (BCG1) & Stu Klein (Baja Jones)
for there tireless efforts in making this journey a success
